Jewel C. Williams, age 94, died peacefully at home on March 6, 2014. She was born May 14, 1919 in Toledo, Carlton County, Georgia. Her parents were Alec Crawford and Katie Kessler Stokes. Jewel graduated from Lakeland High School in 1938. She had a long career in fashion design and retailing, initially working for Learner Shops then retiring after 34 years of service with Sears. During that time, she received many awards as a top sales manager. She was active in the Sanford Women's Club and was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church of Sanford.
She married Gilbert A. Williams in 1940. She was preceded in death by him and by all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, John Williams (Mary) and Charles Williams (Barbara), her grandchildren Adam, Laura Anne and Rachel, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members all of whom she loved. She will be missed by her immediate and extended family as she was always supportive of them and played an important role in each of their lives. She loved to fish and garden and she nurtured the innumerable plants, lizards and birds that surrounded her lovely Sanford home.
DeGusipe Funeral Home, 905 Laurel Ave, Sanford, Florida (407-322-5131) is handling the funeral arrangements. The service will be held Sunday, March 9 at 2:30 PM with a reception at the funeral home immediately following the service. Officiating will be Pastor David Charlton.
