Obituary

Jeffrey Norman Pryor, age 56, passed away in his home in Winter Garden on November 12, 2020. Jeff was born in Columbia, Missouri on November 16, 1963 to Marcia and Norman Pryor.

Being in a military family, Jeff grew up on Naval base housing, first in Great Lakes, IL and later on the Naval Hospital base in Portsmouth, VA. Jeff attended Portsmouth Catholic Schools from elementary school through his graduation in 1982. He still has many lifelong friends he met during his time there.

Jeff started his undergraduate career at Old Dominion University and finished at University of Central Florida in Orlando. He then returned to Norfolk State University to earn his Masters Degree in Social Work. After a few years working together at the Pines Treatment Center in Portsmouth, Jeff and his wife, Jennifer, settled in Orlando where they raised their two children, Annie and Jake.

Jeff's love of Chicago sports was instilled at an early age by his Grandpa Jake. He passed that love onto his son Jake, and they were able to attend several Chicago games in person. Jeff planned all of his free time around spending time with his family. He always wanted his kids to have fun. Whether zip-lining with Jake or going to museums with Annie or just walking his dog Nora around the neighborhood, nothing brought Jeff more joy than laughing with his children and seeing them happy. At every family gathering, while the rest of the adults were sitting and "visiting", Jeff was out with the children (his two plus their cousins) playing basketball or organizing a kickball game. He was a favorite to all the Pryor grandkids.

Jeff was a hard worker from a young age. He was the embodiment of the phrase "find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life". Whether selling newspapers in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital at 12, pumping gas at the Old Town Exxon at 16, bartending through his 20's or delivering pizzas for almost all of his adult life, Jeff always had a smile on his face and took real joy in interacting with people. He didn't have customers, he had buddies. He had an inside joke with everyone, and those for whom he felt particularly fond of might even get an inappropriate nickname. It was all in good fun. Jeff loved everyone and the feeling was mutual.

In his professional career, he was able to blend his sense of humor with true caring and compassion. He worked for 15 years at the Life Care Center in Altamonte Springs as the Director of Social Services.

Through all of his experiences, Jeff collected life-long friends. He managed to stay connected to people from each period in his life. Once you were Jeff's friend, you were his friend forever. His sense of humor was infectious. He loved an inappropriate joke, and he always laughed the loudest.

Jeff is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughter Anne and son Jacob, his parents Marcia and Norm Pryor, mother-in-law Lou Weaver, brother-in-law Christopher Weaver (Shauna), sisters Traci Pryor Shoemaker, Lisa Pryor Martinez, Kerri Pryor Bernier, Robin Pryor Wilkerson (Mike), and brother Travis Pryor (Lee Ann). Robert and Leola Sack (deceased) were Jeff's beloved grandparents. He was always the favorite uncle to his 14 nieces and nephews. Jeff was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and a loving son.

Due to Covid-19 services are private.
