Jamie Marie Cruise Graybeal formerly of Christiansburg, Virginia passed away in Orlando, Florida on September 1, 2023. She recently celebrated her 97th birthday. Jamie is preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband Dr. Henry Charlton Graybeal; a brother and three sisters. Left to cherish her memories are son Hank Graybeal; daughter June Lubowinski; daughter-in-law Joyce Fletcher; son-in law Steven Lubowinski; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The daughter of Willie and Alice Cruise, Jamie was born in Willis, Virginia. After growing up in Willis Jamie graduated from Radford College earning a degree in Home Economics. Living in Baltimore, Maryland while her husband completed his MD at Johns Hopkins Medical School, Jamie taught Home Economics in Baltimore County schools.
After moving to Christiansburg, Virginia Jamie was a stay-at-home Mom and an active member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. She joined the Garden Club and held in esteem her membership in the Christiansburg Book Club. Jamie's time at Radford College instilled in her a lifelong passion for learning and trying new things which led to attending conferences at Radford College and Virginia Tech. She also attended many senior hostels with her good friends Lois and Frank Bersch where she developed her skills in storytelling, photography, quilting and others. Her hobbies included Bridge and for many years she belonged to four separate groups. Jamie became an enthusiastic docent for the Montgomery Museum of Art and History. In her later years she became a volunteer with The Linus Project, a group that made security blankets for sick, traumatized, or abused children in the New River Valley; she was a prolific contributor and created each blanket with love and care.
Jamie will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
