James Arthur Venable known by all his family and friends as "Jet", passed away peacefully in
his home in Port Orange, Florida on June 24, 2025, at the age of 85 years old. He was born on
March 20, 1940, to Frank and Marjorie Venable, in Triangle, Virginia.
James was a graduate of Virginia Poly Tech University and worked in Graphic Design and
Printing Press for most of his career. Known for his love of music, James could light up a room
with his soothing voice and an acoustic guitar. His humor and kindness were unwavering for a
man of his stature. James was a motorcycle enthusiast and would be found most mornings
enjoying a cup of coffee, with his feet in the sand, taking in the views from the beautiful Florida
beaches. From Electra Glides to Corvettes and Caddy's, Jet loved guitars and fine cars. A true
storyteller, James loved his family and sharing his fond memories he made with them
throughout the years.
A loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, James is survived by
his daughter; Cynthia Louise Oien Venable (James); granddaughters, Crystal Leigh Oien (Mike),
Brandy Amber Hymel (Derek), and Brittany Paige Hill (Daniel), as well as his 14 great-
grandchildren; his sister Nancy Mooney and his brother Frank "Bill" Venable (Millie).
James was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Linda Venable Burch of Port Orange, FL;
grandparents, James and Ethel Anderson of Triangle; his parents, Frank and Marjorie Venable
of Triangle; his sister, Suellen Venable of Triangle; his brother, Robert Christopher Venable,
"Rocky" of Triangle; and his brother-in-law, Micky Mooney of Woodbridge, VA.
Private services will be held with immediate family.
