James (Jim) L. Barfield, 73, of Heathrow, FL passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at his home in Heathrow, FL. He was born November 5, 1943 in Gadsen, AL to David and Janet "Cannon" Barfield.
A graduate of Auburn University, Jim was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and an All-American baseball player (the fourth baseball All-American in Auburn history). He was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1964 after his junior season on the plains. He still holds the highest career BA (.385) and was inducted into the Auburn Hall of Fame in 2013.
After a successful career in the insurance industry, Jim ventured into the golf industry with Rife Putters and Cure Putters.
Jim is survived by his wife of 17 years, Loretta, four sons and their families (Chris Barfield, Rich Sturgill, Tim Sturgill and Scott Sturgill), his mother (Janet Barfield), his sister (Jenny Sue Clark) and Nine Grandchildren.
