Obituary

James Julien Paul Rucquoi passed away July 26th, 2024, following a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Adele Azar-Rucquoi in November, 2023. Jim & Adele were residents of Vitality Living Lake Forrest, but had called Sanford their home for many years.

Jim was born in Brussels, Belgium and throughout his life maintained traditions passed down from his American mother and Belgian father. He attended Georgetown University and upon graduating, received his commission in the U.S. Navy. He served as an intelligence officer and naval attaché before returning to school to earn his MBA at Columbia University. His career led him down Madison Avenue and he later served on faculty at Baruch College and the City University of New York, where he taught advertising and marketing.

After moving to Florida, he pursued his passion for expression through poetry — later meeting Adele Azar who shared his love of writing, reading Thomas Merton and gardening together. They were married in 1993 and resided in Maitland, Florida before eventually embracing the quiet charm and natural beauty of Sanford.

Jim loved being outdoors — from the chill of the mountains, to the music and dance of the ocean's waves. He reflected often on the wonder of God's creation and expressed this awe in his writing. He will be remembered for the things he loved, and the details that captured his imagination — the sway of an aged oak tree… the feeling of being in a summer rain… the joy of reading and writing with Adele, his wife of 30 years.

James J. Rucquoi is survived by his two sisters, Jeanne Rucquoi and Marguerite Picard, his brother Charles Rucquoi, sons Marc Rucquoi & David Rucquoi, his stepdaughter Kate Copeland as well as grandchildren Jacob, Ben, Jessica and Noah.
