James Ian Nelson, a 48- year- old resident of Maitland passed away on July 09 , 2024 after losing a 9-month battle with cancer.
Ian was born in Quantico, Virginia and moved to Maitland, Florida in 1987. He attended Lake Highland Preparatory School then continued his education at Florida State University and the University of Central Florida, where he received his bachelor's degree in engineering. He joined Madden, Morehead and Stokes, Inc. in 2002, working as a civil engineer. In addition to his work at Madden, Morehead and Stokes, he was also working on building his own private company.

James was an avid enthusiast for target shooting, building Legos and exercising. He also enjoyed spending time with his family (especially his niece) and friends, creating great memories.

Ian is survived by his parents - Penny and Cecil Nelson; his niece – Maggie Nelson; his sister and her husband – Katie and Carl Miller and their children, Juli, Chris, Gwen and Drake; his aunt – Heather Wood; two uncles – Jim and Doug Wood and their families.

The family thanks everyone for their continued support and prayers through this tough time.

Ian will be laid to rest at Andrews Cemetery in Warren, Missouri.

Memorials may be given to The Adam Michael Rosen Foundation Hope for Those Affected by Cancer.
