Obituary

James Edward McGinn Jr., 76, of Orlando, Florida passed away on July 5, 2023.

Jim was born and raised in Narberth, PA. He attended St Margaret's Catholic Elementary School, Monsignor Bonner High School, St. Joseph's University and served as an air traffic controller in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. He was a small business owner in Delaware County, PA who went on to have a career in the airline industry. Jim was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome on his 55th birthday in 2001. He was able to receive a bone marrow stem cell transplant from an anonymous donor which provided him with 22 years of life to see his children grow and watch them raise 14 amazing grandchildren.

Jim had a sense of humor that lit up every room for both kids and adults. There were many years and lots of laughter at the beach in Margate City, NJ. He was a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan. In his teens and 20s, he worked as an usher for the Eagles at Franklin Field, and later held season tickets for the Philadelphia Phillies. He had a passion for planes and cars and was the handyman that (thought he) could fix anything around the house.

He was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma and completed weeks of radiation but passed away due to additional complications. He was looking forward to treating his grandkids to a day at Disney and hoped for a trip in the fall to spend time with family at the Jersey shore.

Jim is survived by his sisters Margaret Threlfall and Monica Norman, and brother Martin McGinn, former spouse Patricia Buckley McGinn and their children, Meredith (Jason Fabozzi), Gregory (fmr spouse, Mary Helen P. McGinn) and Meghan (Ryan Lagergren.) Additionally, Jim leaves behind stepson Bob Bruce (Allison), and stepdaughter Heather Lee (Ken Douglas) as well as grandchildren: Julia and Margaret McGinn; Gus, Nick and Alexandra Fabozzi; Jonas and Caroline Lagergren; Jordan, Reagan, Mason, and Haley Bruce; and Ryan, Caitlin and Sienna Douglas. He is predeceased by his wife of 24 years Elaine Bruce McGinn, his brother Michael McGinn and parents James E. McGinn, Sr and Margaret O'Donnell McGinn.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the American Cancer Society in his honor.
