Jim Milo Loomis, 73, went to be with his Lord on December 19, 2017. He was born in American Falls, Idaho, and moved at age three to Winter Park, Florida. Jim grew up in downtown Winter Park behind Rollins College. He graduated from Winter Park High. His father built a hardware store on Orange Avenue and his mother taught music, thus he grew up with an engineer's thirst for knowledge and a keen interest in the arts and music.
He served 4 years of active duty in the Air Force during the Viet Nam Conflict. He was based in Korat, Thailand, attached to the Royal Thai Air Force. This duty was followed by two years in the Reserves, during which time he worked for Martin Marietta and Sears, while he finished his BA in Business at Florida Southern University. He graduated with honors. Throughout his military service he volunteered with the Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps.
Jim passed his State of Florida boards in Certified Public Accounting in 1980, while working for Martin Marietta.
In 1984 Jim and a business partner built a professional building on south Mills Avenue in Orlando. In 1985 after completion of the professional building, Jim occupied the second floor of the building as Loomis and Hable P.A., Certified Public Accounting Firm. Jim was managing Partner of that firm for 10 years.
In 1994 Jim joined Glickstein, Laval, Carris P.A., Certified Public Accounting firm in Maitland, Florida. He became both a Shareholder and Partner with the firm, and retired in 2011.
He was the "Master of Understatement and good ole Southern Charm" always putting others at ease with his gentle manner and kind, gracious heart. He loved his redheads…his wife, Tootsie, and his service dog, Koda. He filled his life with three passions…Aviation, the Bach Festival Choir, and the appreciation of good food shared with family and friends.
Jim waged and fought a courageous battle of seven years with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. He participated in every type of physical exercise that was available for Parkinson's in Central Florida, as well as many for mind and brain fitness. He passed away peacefully in his home, with his Co-Pilot wife and service dog Koda at his side.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine "Tootsie" Yarborough-Loomis; his daughter Sarah Anne (Kyle) Dallape, grandchildren Lane Anne and Trevor, Atlanta, GA; his sister Dorothy (Maurice) Bourquin Geneva, Switzerland; and sister-in-law Patricia Loomis Vancouver, OR.
