Irene Schuyler Doty of St. Petersburg, Florida 83 peacefully passed away Monday, July 2, 2018. She was an only child, born and raised in farm country outside Beecher City (population of approximately 500 at the time), Illinois on March 23, 1935. She was a straight A student and graduated from Beecher City Community High School in 1952 with a graduating class of 30 students. During high school she was an accomplished athlete participating in basketball, volleyball and softball.
She moved to the St. Petersburg area with her family in 1971. She attended Northside Baptist Church, was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the Christmas holidays, worked many years at Sears in Tyrone Square Mall as well as the thrift store for Northside Baptist Church. She also had her own business in St. Petersburg, My Junke Shop.
She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved family/friend get togethers, outdoor activities, gardening, reading, all animals – large and small, and the Tampa Bay Rays. Each of her children knew she would always love them and be there for them.
She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel Roy Schuyler (6/20/1903 – 8/01/1961) and Juanita Florey Schuyler (7/29/1905 – 8/06/1961) and by her son, Bradley Eugene Doty (9/12/1961 – 4/29/2005).
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Eugene Doty, whom she met at age 13 and married 6 years later; her children, Kerry Rex Doty of St. Petersburg, Valerie Doty Harrah of Seminole and Jeffrey Alan Doty of Largo; her grandchildren, Skyler Doty Harrah, Danielle Doty Harrah, Brandon Alan Doty, Amanda Brown and Amber Brown; her daughters-in-law, Michelle Raye Doty and Charessa Dawn Doty; her dog, Elle.
A reception was held at the R. Lee Williams funeral home on Saturday, July 7th.
