Obituary

Howard S. Reiss was born on August 30, 1933. He was one of three children of Victor and Lillian Reiss. Howard had an older sister, Claire who preceded him in death and a younger brother, Eddie Reiss who survives him. Howard moved to Miami, Florida with his parents from Passaic, New Jersey and was, not only the first in his family to graduate college, but also attended and graduated from Law school. Howard married and is survived and missed by his adoring and beautiful wife of 64 years, Lynn Reiss, as well as his two children Adam Reiss and Erika Reiss Ben-Zeev. Howard is also survived by his son-in-law, Ron Ben-Zeev, his daughter-in-law, Lisa Noble and five wonderful grandchildren, Alana Ben-Zeev, Hannah Reiss, Ari Ben-Zeev, David Reiss and Alexa Ben-Zeev. Howard is also survived by Kiel and Magic.

Howard and Lynn moved to Orlando, Florida in 1960. Howard and Lynn were a good team and raised their family in Central Florida. Howard was a loving; faithful husband and a child could not ask for a better parent; a friend could not ask for a better friend. Howard was a hard-working, diligent, intellectually honest, compassionate person, and an extremely well-respected attorney's attorney. Howard Reiss enjoyed the respect of his clients, the judiciary, fellow litigants, his friends, and those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Howard practiced law in a different time period and was truly a professional. Never boastful, never a braggart and never self-aggrandizing; always ethical. He never demanded respect; he commanded respect. Howard always made the time to be with and was generous with his family and his family was his priority.

On August 19, 2020, Howard Reiss tested positive for Covid. He and his wife had been extremely cautious but more likely than not, he contracted the virus from a home healthcare worker who was not practicing and following CDC safety recommendations. A sad, premature, and preventable loss of life. Howard passed on August 29, 2020, one day before his 87th birthday. After being admitted to the hospital, his family was advised that the likelihood of surviving was extremely remote and even when one knows this dark day is coming, it is emotionally paralyzing when it arrives. Sadly, Covid has cast a gray pall over the ability to celebrate a 'life well lived'.

Howard loved making people laugh and he loved laughing. Howard liked his soup hot and pumpkin pie for dessert; he enjoyed every Sandwich! Very grateful to have many joyful memories of family vacations nearby and abroad (thanks mom!).

Howard Reiss was a positive influence and his loss will leave a void in so many people's hearts and lives. Please celebrate Howard's life as you mourn our loss. As requested, a small family service will be held at a later time.
