Herbert J. Kindl passed away peacefully in Longwood, FL, on 29 June 2020 with his beloved wife, Louise at his side.

"Herb" was born in Hartford, CT, on 14 June 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Kindl, immigrants from Hungary. After graduating from Bulkeley High School in Hartford in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where, after one year, he was awarded a competitive Fleet appointment to the Naval Academy.

After graduation with the Class of 1949, Herb was assigned to HENRICO (APA-45), a troop ship. He served aboard her during the early part of the Korean War, participating as wave commander of the first assault wave during the landing at Inchon, Korea. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for his role in this action.

Subsequently, he was assigned to the Submarine School at New London, CT. After graduation, he served tours of duty on DIABLO (SS-479) and ATULE (SS-407). He resigned from the Navy in 1954 to pursue a career in industry.

Herb joined the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Nuclear Power Division, in 1954 as a systems engineer, working on submarine nuclear power plant system designs. In 1956, he joined the General Electric Company, as project engineer of its Polaris Submarine Missile Fire Control System Program.

During his 29-year career with G.E., he advanced in responsibility to become Program General Manager, Polaris Programs, in Pittsfield, MA; General Manager, Armament Systems Department in Burlington, VT; and General Manager, Aerospace Electronics Department, in Utica, NY. Herb retired from G.E. in 1983.

In his later years, Herb was president and CEO of Reflectone, Inc., a flight simulator company and Trident International Inc., a projection display systems company.

Herb is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise Harper of Eastport, MD. He also leaves behind their daughters, Sharon Kaplan, Cynthia Conley (Patrick), Melanie Young and Kristina Kindl (Scott Brown) as well as ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, James, in 2018.

Herbert was cremated in early July 2020.
