Obituary

Henry E. Turney, passed away Thursday December 15, 2022, at the age of 96 after a brief illness in St. Petersburg, FL. He is preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Perry Turney (2019) and parents Hugh Curtis Turney (1961) and Lena Bell Turner (1981) He is survived by children: Debbie Haslam and her spouse Andy, David Turney, and his spouse Janet, and Denise Harris and her spouse Bob; and his grandchildren: Laura and Lacey Haslam, Christopher and Patrick Turney
Henry was born and raised outside Weogufka , AL in 1926. A Korean War veteran, he attended Auburn University (War Eagle!) through the GI Bill and earned his BS and MS in Agricultural Education. He worked for the USDA in the agency for Rural Development from 1955 to 1983 when he retired. During his career he was responsible for loan and grant programs to improve the living standards of farmers and also for upgrading public water systems and sanitation in rural communities.
After retirement he traveled widely, and gardened for food and fun. He was very active in the University City Church of Christ as a deacon and part of the Mother's Day Out program. He's remembered as a kind, easygoing and helpful person and much missed by family and friends.
Funeral Services are planned for 2 pm, Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Northwest Church of Christ, 6355 38th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, FL 33710. Interment will be Thursday, Dec. 22, 11 a.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mount Dora Children's' Home or the Parkinson's Foundation.
