Helen McDaniel McGuire, 97, died March 17, 2016.
Mrs. McGuire was born February 6, 1919, in Bartow, Georgia, to William D. McDaniel and Maude Powell.
She served as a school secretary for Sanford Grammar School and Longwood Elementary School. She completed her working career as a customer service associate for the Seminole County Elections office.
During her life she witnessed the Stock Market crash of 1929, the Great Depression, and World War II where her husband J. B. Phillips was away fighting for five years. At that time she worked at the Army Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia, as a supervisor.
She loved her son, J.B. Phillips, and her daughter, Brenda Thacker, as well as her many grand-children. She was always on call to help them whenever they needed her.
She loved Bass Fishing in her younger years. Canasta and Bridge were her main hobbies and televised Golf (she thought Tiger Woods was great!) and College Football (J. B. played for Florida and Brenda attended Florida State) were her sports' interests. She loved her church (First Baptist Church of Sanford) and supported it in many capacities including serving Wednesday Night Suppers, Helping in Children's Sunday School as well as representing the church working regularly at the Sanford Sharing Center.
Mom, we know you fought the good fight, completed the race and earned your place by family and friends in Heaven...but we will miss you so much!
Special thanks go out to Oak Manor Assisted Living Center, DeLand, and Halifax Health Hospice of Ormond Beach.
