Helen Courter, 95, of Norwich Connecticut, passed away on March 19, at her daughter Linda's home In Orlando Florida surrounded by family. She was born in Cambridge Mass on September 19, 1918 daughter of Frank & Lena Perry
Helen grew up in New London Ct where she met and married Walter Courter who was in the Navy at that time. After traveling the country the family settled down on Shore Road in Norwich, Ct where she lived for the past 55 years. Walter passed in 1980; they were married for 45 years. Helen enjoyed her home overlooking the cove where she had many friends and enjoyed family gatherings. She also enjoyed going back to Ocean Beach with the family and walking the boardwalk.
Helen was a wonderful homemaker. And enjoyed cooking for her family and friends she also enjoyed playing the piano, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting and loved to take walks in her neighborhood. She was actively involved with her children and grandchildren. Helen always put her children first. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida but always ready to get back to her home in Ct in the spring.
Helen is survived by Sister: Dottie Curran, daughter: Helen Paige and husband Arthur, daughter: Linda Mardegan and husband Tim, Sons: Walter and wife Janet , Robert and wife Jean, Michael and wife Maggie, Ricky and wife Lisa. Grandchildren: Jon & Stephen Paige, Patricia Courter, Jason Courter, Michelle Hayward, Melissa & Garrett Courter, Clint & Heather Byrd, Vicky Courter, Debbie Lamb , Wayne Bissonette ,Gabriel & Noah Courter. Great Grandchildren :Zachary & Jenna Korenkiwicz, Aric Byrd, Tyler &Caleb Courter,Jeffrey, Jackson& Jayce Hayward ,Mathew ,Christopher & Nathan Paige , Ari &Shayla Cagle and McKenzie Mims.
Helen is preceded in death by husband Walter Courter, daughter Joanne Courter, Brother Robert Perry, grandson Jimmy Bissonette and Sister Mary Cary.
A Memorial service celebrating Helen's life will be held at the Leffingwell Baptist Church, 388 Salem Turnpike, Bozrah, CT 06334 April 26th at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow.
