Obituary

Harry James Becker, 86, of Maitland, Florida, passed away, Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Harry was born June 9, 1933 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the eldest child of Harry James Becker, Sr. & Ruth Briggs Becker. He grew up in Bethesda, Maryland and graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, Class of 1951. He joined the Marine Corp, serving our country in Puerto Rico, the Middle East and Japan, earning the rank of Captain.

Following his military service, he attended the University of Florida, earning a Bachelors Degree in Science with a major in accounting and a minor in economics. He enjoyed a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant, specializing in auditing. His hard work earned him a partnership with Coopers & Lybrand.

During his childhood, Harry contracted polio, suffering temporary paralysis which left him confined to a bed during the summer of 1944. He said this is where he developed a love of reading, creating over the years an extensive library. As a lifelong Republican, he spent his retirement years supporting his political beliefs. His daily duty was to keep friends and family informed with emails, jokes, and letter-writing campaigns to government officials. He was a true patriot.

He enjoyed boating, camping, talking and spending time with friends and family. Harry was the family historian and did considerable research to compile the family genealogy going back to the Mayflower and other European roots.

Harry is survived by his two daughters, Laura Benitez, Amy Heidrich, two step-children, Kristin McGregor and Arne Oak, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Ruth Becker Brooks and Martha Jane Becker Main, and his wife Elin Oak Becker.
