Obituary

Harmon Terrell (Terry) Griffin, 76, of Maitland passed into the next life February 21, 2019. He was born September 6, 1942 to Margaret and Sion P. Griffin in Waycross, Georgia. His family moved to Sanford, Florida when he was about 12 years old. In 1960 he graduated from Seminole High School where he made many lifelong friends. He then joined the U.S. Army, stationed mainly in Frankfort, Germany. He was proud to have served his country. After his service he began his education at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He met his wife, Jean, in Macon whom he married June 6, 1964. After completing an accelerated program at Mercer University, he received his undergraduate degree in 1966 and graduated from Mercer Law School in 1968. Then he, Jean, and their young son, Greg, headed to Orlando, Florida to begin his law career. Terry was also active in local politics. He and Jean joined the Orange County Young Republicans and he was legal counsel for the Republican Party of Florida in the 1980's. He was Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and practiced almost 50 years. During his semi-retirement he pursued a lifelong dream of writing. His novels were usually set in Longboat Key, Florida where the family has a vacation home. He loved to write and ended up having a dozen mystery novels published before his illness. He had pulmonary fibrosis and was fortunate to have received a double lung transplant, giving him the chance to enjoy his family and friends an additional two years. The family is sincerely grateful to his doctors and all who cared for him at Advent Health Orlando. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean, of almost 55 years, three sons, Greg, Chris, and Mike, daughter-in-law Judy, grandchildren Kyle and Sarah, brother Tommy (Nancy), sister Nancy (Tim) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Margaret and Sion P. Griffin and a sister, Sue Hewett.
