Gwendolyn Kay Leech, 76, of St. Petersburg, went to be with her Savior on July 2, 2018.
A memorial service is planned for July 20th at 6:30 P.M. at Victory Church of the Nazarene in Kenneth City, FL.
Kay was born in Portsmouth, Ohio to Charles and Lorraine Carpenter on April 12, 1942. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1970. "Miss Kay" was a preschool teacher and director for 26 years and touched the lives of hundreds of children and families, retiring in 2007. She soon fulfilled her dream of staying home to take care of her own grandchildren when she became "Gi Gi" to her granddaughters Hannah Kay Plummer and Chloe Ann Plummer.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lorraine Carpenter, her brothers, Thomas Carpenter, Charles Carpenter, Jr., and Michael Carpenter, her sister, Betty Carpenter, and her sisters-in-law, Ruth Carpenter (Thomas), and Sharon Kay Carpenter (Charles).
Kay is survived her daughters Melissa Leech and Rebecca Plummer, her son in law James Plummer, her granddaughters Hannah Plummer and Chloe Plummer, her sisters Bonnie (Keith) Green, and Sharon (Doug) McKinney, her sister in law Sujin (Michael) Carpenter, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and honorary children and grandchildren that she loved with all her heart.
The family of Kay wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Largo Medical Center MICU for their compassion and care during our mother's final days.
