Mr. Guy Edward Sandberg passed from this life on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at his home. He is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Mary Lee Sandberg. He also left his five children, Bill Sandberg, MSN, CRNA of Tyler, Texas, Jim Sandberg of Orlando, Florida, Ken Sandberg, DDS of Nashville, Tennessee, David Sandberg of Melbourne, Florida and Janice Sandberg Gullikson of Orlando, Florida. There are twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly, as well.

Mr. Sandberg was born on June 3, 1926 in Lafayette, Indiana. He was one of three children born to Carl and Ruby Sandberg. He and his twin brother, Gordon and older sister, Lola, grew up on a farm. With the advent of World War II, Guy and Gordon joined the Marine Corps and participated in the Occupation of Japan.

After his service in the Marine Corps, Mr. Sandberg entered Indiana University. He graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1950. After college, he worked in Chicago for Continental Casualty. Inasmuch as cold weather did not agree with him, he moved to Winter Park, Florida in 1953. In Florida, Mr. Sandberg accepted a position with General Guaranty Insurance Company.

A chance meeting on a train led to his first marriage to the former Ruby Christine Clayton. They married on June 26, 1954. Guy and Christine were married 30 years and raised five children together. Because of their interest in education, all five children hold college degrees.

Mr. Sandberg opened Sandberg Insurance Agency in 1957 and began a nearly fifty-year career as an Independent Insurance agent in central Florida. Although he spent many hours a day servicing the needs of his insurance clients, he made time for community service. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Orlando and was Distinguished President of that organization from 1965-1966. He also served as President of the Orlando Board of Independent Insurance Agents. As a member of the University Club from 1965 to 2015, he served on the Board of Directors and also as Secretary. He was a charter member of the Citrus Club, as well.

In addition to Sandberg Insurance Agency, Mr. Sandberg founded a second business in 1978 - Florida Notary Association. He retired from FNA when he was nearly ninety–one years of age. The business continues today under the leadership of Janice Sandberg Gullikson, his daughter.

On April 2, 1995, Guy and Mary Lee were wed. They had many memorable adventures together – ballroom dancing and traveling the world. Mary Lee was his committed partner to the hour of his passing.

At his death, Guy Sandberg completed a long and fulfilled journey surrounded by his loving wife and children. It was truly a wonderful life.

A Memorial Service and Reception will be held at the Country Club of Orlando on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
