Obituary

We mourn for ourselves, but rejoice for the life of Guy Hugh Dickinson of Casselberry, Florida. He was born in Marion County, Alabama on August 7, 1928 and passed from this life on February 14, 2022. He was the son of Charlie Hugh Dickinson and Cora Diretha Walker Dickinson of Hamilton, Alabama. He passed away from complications of injuries following an accident.

Guy served in the United States Navy during the time of the Korean war. Upon being discharged from the military, he worked as a baker at Merita Bakery in Birmingham, Alabama where he became the shop steward there. He accepted a position in Atlanta, Georgia as a Union Representative for (RWDSU) Retail, Wholesale, Department Store Union. He became the president of the Southeast council, the south east Regional Director of RWDSU, then Secretary Treasurer of the International RWDSU. He was also a representative working in a division of OSHA of the United Nations, concerned with labor laws and conditions of working people throughout the world. He spent his entire life helping the working people of the southeastern United States and the world to have better and safer working conditions, with fairness and equality. He worked in the Civil Rights era with John Lewis, Andrew Young and others. He was never afraid to stand up for justice and fairness even if it meant he would be treated unfairly.

He married Bobbie Faye Frederick of Dora, Alabama in 1954. He is survived by his wife Bobbie Dickinson of Casselberry, Florida, daughter Susan Melissa Dickinson Taylor, son Christopher Hugh Dickinson, grandson Charles Hugh Taylor, brother Other Nick Dickinson of Hanceville, Alabama, sister Jewel Heron of Watson, Alabama. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He loved the Bible and read and studied it daily. He supported missionaries in many places and was self supporting when he traveled to teach others about God and his son Jesus Christ. He loved all people. He wanted their secular and spiritual lives to be right.

The memorial service celebrating his living in faithful service unto God unto death will be held at the South Seminole Church of Christ on Howell Branch Rd. Winter Park, Florida at 10:30 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, February 19, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Christian Assistance, Inc. P.O. Box 1405 Forest Park, Georgia 30298.
