Gregory Michael Sum, also known as "Charlie Sum," 66, of Orlando, Florida died June 20, 2014 of lung disease. Charlie was born in Amsterdam, New York to Anna and Stanley Sum (deceased). Charlie lived in Miami and Amsterdam but resided most of his life in Orlando. A mass and memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Charlie was an avid historian, writing articles on the French and Indian wars, and Rogers Rangers. He was proud of the fact that he was born on the day that Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga, October 17, 1777. Charlie was a priest with the Diocese of Orlando for 10 years before he found his second calling, which was to be a husband, father, and an English teacher. Charlie taught English for over 20 years in the Lake County school system, retiring in 2009.

His latest history project was interviewing World War II veterans for the Kiwanis Club. Charlie volunteered with the Kerouac Foundation, as well as the Boy Scouts of America. He also volunteered with the Kiwanis Club of Lake County.

Gregory is survived by his mother Anna Sum and his sister Mariann (Louis) LoSasso, and his nephews Louis Anthony and Michael. Charlie married Marguerite (Margie) Smith October 15, 1983. Together they raised three awesome children – Jacob Benedict Sum, Christine Gloria Sum, and Corey McGregor Sum Bejblik and her husband Jacob Adam. Charlie has one wonderful grandson, Zackery Xavier Bejblik.

Charlie will make his final journey via the highways and byways to Amsterdam, New York. Along the way to his family's final resting site, Charlie will stop at his favorite historical sites and national battlefields in the states of Maryland, Virginia, and New York.

Charlie's entire family will now rest easier that he knows all the Jeopardy answers, what really happened on November 22, 1963, and he will now be able to march with General Patton over the fields of Normandy.
