Grayson Carrington Powell, Jr. died October 10, 2016 peacefully at his home in Maitland, FL. Grayson, 72, was born in South Boston, VA January 7, 1944 to the late Grayson C. Powell, Sr. and the late Virginia Orrell of South Boston.

Grayson is survived by his sister Carolyn Lee of The Villages, FL, two sons, Jeremy W. Powell and wife Kim of Sterling, VA and Daniel C. Powell of South Boston, VA., grand-daughters: Andrea, Kendra, Alivia, grand-sons: Daniel Jr., and Caden, a host of cousins, family members, and friends.

Grayson grew up in South Boston, VA where he attended Halifax County High School before continuing his education at Washington and Lee University and later University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for postgraduate studies. He served as a 1st Lt. in the United States Army. Grayson spent his life as an "educator". In addition to teaching, he attended First Baptist Church of South Boston participating as a member of the Chancel Choir for over 25 years. He retired to Florida in 2002, where he followed his passion for music to Maitland Presbyterian Church.

There will be a memorial service for the memory of Grayson at 1:00 p.m., Monday October 17, 2016 at Maitland Presbyterian Church, 341 North Orland Avenue, Maitland FL 32751.
