Obituary

Dr. Gordon Lee Wright 77, returned to his heavenly home on July 22, 2017 in Clermont, FL. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God strengthened both him and his loved ones, and ultimately gave him peace.
Gordon was born to Edyth I. and Vern O. Wright in Dayton, OH on February 5, 1940. On June 9, 1962, he married his childhood sweetheart, best friend, soul mate & confidant, Ann E. Kinsel. Together, they shared 55 years of marriage and the joy of raising their three sons and one daughter. Gordon is survived by his wife, Ann E. of Groveland, FL; sons Timothy A. (Kathy) Wright of Gansevoort, NY; Steven P. (Angela) Wright of Beaverton, OR; Jeffrey B. (Kara) Wright of York Harbor, ME; daughter Elisabeth (Gary) Nye of McKinney, TX, and grandchildren, Megan, Maya, Kaylei, Finn, Claire, Catherine, Isabelle, Charlotte, Andrew, Ella and Jacob. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Nancy.
After graduating from Fairborn High School in Fairborn, OH in June 1958, Gordon went on to receive a DDS from his beloved alma mater, The Ohio State University in 1965, and completed his residency in Oral Surgery from the University of Pittsburg in 1973. Gordon used his education, training, & skills acquired to live in service to those entrusted in his care both personally and professionally.
On July 23, 1965 Gordon joined the United States Air Force, and served as an active duty officer through September 15, 1979, and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon returning to civilian life and entering private practice in upstate NY, Gordon continued his military service as a member of both the USAF and Army Reserves, retiring in 1991 with the rank of Colonel after more than 25 years of honorable service.
In 1979, Gordon left active duty and joined an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practice in Niskayuna, NY and remained with them for over 34 years. Additionally, Gordon was the Chief of Staff of Oral Surgery and Oral Surgery Attending for St. Clare's Hospital. In 2000, he was recognized by his peers and students with the Spirit of Healing Award for exemplary care within the community, and several times was recognized as Teacher of the Year.
He was involved in the Christian community from an early age and most recently, was an established member of both First Reformed Church of Scotia (NY) and First United Methodist Church in Clermont, FL.
He is dearly missed by his family, friends and loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is now at peace with his Creator.
