Gloria Monica Henry-Jarrett was born on September 9, 1940, in Kingston Jamaica. She was the fourth of eleven children for Velieta and Horald Henry, two of whom preceded her.
Gloria attended Trench Town Primary school in Kingston. In Jamaica she worked as a hairstylist (hairdresser), at Seprod, a major manufacturing and Distribution Company as well as Jamaica Packaging Industry (JPI) Jamaica's foremost producer of packaging supplies.
She migrated to the United State of America in the late sixties. She had two children Sandra Martinez and Glendon Mitchell. Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved son Glendon.
Gloria married Sidney Jarrett 1987 and became part of blended family with four step- children and her two biological children.
Gloria resided in Mount Vernon, New York for many years and worked at Mount Vernon Hospital from 1969 until 2006. At Mount Vernon Hospital, she was not only a member of the trade union but she was a fierce Union Delegate where she negotiated and fought for the rights of workers. At different times the fight was for job security, working condition, fair benefits and wages among other things. She was recognized as an advocate for the working class by both management and staff. After a 37 years tenure with the hospital Gloria retired in 2006.
Gloria relocated to Florida in 2007 and was baptize in the Church of God. She became a member of Fresh Oil Ministry Church of God and was an active member of the Prayer Fasting Committee and the Benevolent Committee.
Gloria loved to travel, she was in fact a world traveler. She visited every continent in the world except Antarctica and developed an appreciation for diverse cultures.
Gloria cherished her family and friends, she had a passion for encouraging and supporting young people and even some not so young to study and develop themselves so they could advance academically and professionally. Many heeded her encouragement and is better for it today.
Above all Gloria was a Godly woman, she loved the Lord. In John 14:3 Jesus tells us "I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that where I am, there you also will be". Gloria went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2021.
Gloria is survived by her husband Sydney Jarrett, daughter Sandra Martinez, Step children Joan Lasley, Richard Jarrett, Wayne Jarrett, Milton Jarrett, grand-children Chinika, Alexandra, Lisa, Sasha-Ann, Marcel, Wayne Jr, Sydney, Kaelen and Miles. Great grand-children Hunter and Leo. Sisters and brothers, adopted children Morvette Beckford and Victor Watson. Several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephews, great grand-nieces and great grand-nephews. Her memory will be cherished.
