Gilbert R. Jamieson's Obituary
Gilbert (Gil) Ralph Jamieson, 92, of Maitland, Florida passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018.Gilbert was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Louise (Martin) Jamieson. He was the last of 11 brothers and sisters and was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Coe, Clara Gatling, Harriet Laudenslager, Lois Koppenheffer, Sara Shearer, Jean Edwards and brothers, David, John, Edward and Guy Jamieson.
Gil was born February 1, 1926 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to James and Hannah Jamieson. He was raised from a toddler to adulthood by his mother's good friend and neighbor, Sara Jane Carlson and her husband William Carlson. After graduating from John Harris High School he entered the United States Navy during World War II and during his time of service was assigned to naval destroyers and submarines in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters of operation . On January 21, 1948, he married Helen Louise Martin and together they raised three children in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He retired in the early 1980's from the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot as a computer systems analyst.
Gil and his wife, Helen, retired to Florida and spent many years enjoying life in the sunshine state. Along with his many friends, he enjoyed his daily round of golf and always looked forward spending time with his wife as team members on several local bowling leagues. He is survived by three children; Thomas Jamieson and his partner Mark Jacobs of Strasburg, VA; Robert Jamieson of Winter Springs, FL; and Jo Ann Jamieson and her partner, Rodney Kunkle of Harrisburg, PA. Gil is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Also, his family would like to thank the daily caregivers helping to provide for his comfort and high quality of life while at home.
Burial and a memorial with military honors will be held for both Gilbert and Helen Jamieson on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, 2:00 pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania.
