Dr. Getatchew R. Marsie- Hazen, age 60, of Central Florida, died on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was born on January 2, 1955 in the District of Columbia to former Ethiopian Diplomat, Woobishet Marsie - Hazen and former Information Officer at the UN Secretariat, Marjorie Marsie-Hazen. He attended Mount Alvernia Preparatory School and was a proud Cornwall College graduate. Getatchew married his high school sweetheart Janet Yolanda Scott in the Rankin Chapel at Howard University, where they were both students. Upon graduating from Howard University's College of Medicine, he trained at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and later completed his residency at Tulane University in Louisiana. After his residency, he served his country providing medical care in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He and his wife settled in Central Florida where they raised their family and he established his medical practice. He is survived by his wife, Janet; his mother, Marjorie; children, Yohannes, Rahel, Elsabet and Eleni; granddaughter, Elana; siblings, Desseta, Judy, Dina and Samuel; uncles, aunts and numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. During his time here, he saved lives, healed many and enriched the lives of his family, friends and patients.
