George L. Weld, 77, of Sanford, Florida passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. George was born October 16, 1938 in Crossnore, North Carolina to Roy and Mary Weld.
He served his country in the United States Navy as a pilot from 1958 to 1962 and continued in the Naval Reserve for the next 6 years in a squadron out of Jacksonville, Florida.
George was a loving husband to Valerie, his wife, and devoted father to daughter
s; Valerie Ann, Jr. and Natalie. He was overjoyed to begin his role as grandfather to Marco, 8, and Georgio, 2-1/2.
George was pre-deceased by his daughter, Valerie Ann, Jr., by his brother, Tom Weld and his sister-in-law, Miriam Doktor.
He is survived by Valerie, his wife of 46 years, of Sanford; his daughter, Natalie and her husband Federico Cozzani and their sons, Marco and Georgio of Santa Clarita, California. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ken Doktor; sister, Ann Weld Hampton, brother, Joe Weld and his wife Patti, and sister-in-law, Nancy Phillips Weld, all in North Carolina, along with a multitude of good friends in the Sanford area.
George enjoyed his association with his church family, local Masons and the Sanford Bubba Club.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, September 10, at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Sanford, 301 Oak Avenue. Friends are invited to attend a reception in the fellowship hall immediately after the celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George L. Weld may be made to Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, or the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Mary.
