Gary Wayne Douglas passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at his home in St. Cloud, Florida. He was 63 years old. On May 3, 1959, an early Sunday morning, Gary was born at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA. Gary attended Colonial High School in Orlando, FL.
In 1983, Gary married Charlotte Kirby, shortly after two daughters, Diana and Sarah. Gary wore many different hats throughout his career, but his favorite remained building swimming pools. He worked all over the greater Central Florida area alongside the many of workers who became friends. If you meet a construction worker today, ask him about Spivey; they will probably say "Gary," as that is who he was known as. There was not a day that went by that he was not working hard on one of his many hobbies. Gary was an avid wood worker and could build anything he dreamed up. Another hobby through the years was refinishing cars, motorcycles, and off-road vehicles.
Gary's daughters had his heart and he loved them very much. He logged many miles in the West Virginia Mountains with his oldest daughter, Diana Kennedy, husband Johnny, and their two children on their side-by-side vehicles. From target shooting, four wheeling, camping, and exploring, West Virginia remained a favorite place for Gary to visit. Gary was also a Disney annual passholder and enjoyed exploring the parks with his younger daughter, Sarah, her husband Daniel, and his grandsons. He spent many trips at Disney, often unsuccessfully convincing the boys to ride his favorite, Slinky Dog Dash. He also enjoyed fishing, sunshine, and the water and was able to go out with his daughters boating. Whatever the day held, Gary was happiest when he lived life surrounded by family.
Gary was an active member of Kissimmee Christian Church. He was involved in many different areas of the church including the Men's Breakfast and the Old Geezer's Club. Whatever the task at church, he was up for it! Gary's outgoing personality meant that he never met a stranger and this trait lent well to him making numerous friends in his church community and he was grateful for his Pastor, Jim Book.
In addition to Diana and Sarah, Gary leaves behind his two son in-laws, Johnny and Daniel, as well as his grandchildren who he adored, JJ and Karly Kennedy, William and Thomas Martin. An older brother, Danny Douglas (Sheri), an older sister Debbie Dermid (Aaron), as well as his niece Shannon Dermid.
The family is asking for all who knew and loved Gary, to join them for a celebration of his life. The service will be held on Saturday January 21, 2023 at 2:00PM at Kissimmee Christian Church, 415 North Main Street, Kissimmee, FL 34744. In lieu of flowers, Diana and Sarah would love for an offering to be made to Gary's church, Kissimmee Christian Church, on his behalf.
