Obituary

Our Earth Angel

Gabriel Gomez, an adored father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully in Winter Garden, FL on February 20, 2019 at the age of 70.

Gabriel was born on January 06, 1949 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico to Pedro and Bautista Gomez. He moved to Chicago at a very young age where he grew up, graduated high school and met and married his high school sweetheart, Esther Lydia. On February 14, 1972 and May 27, 1976 respectively, he welcomed his two beautiful daughters, Laura and Valerie who were the most important part of his life. After a bad snow storm that took place in Chicago in 1979, Gabriel decided to leave Chicago to be with his children in Florida.

Gabriel was a hard-working, devoted father who had a passion for baseball and cars. He was an avid Cubs fan all throughout his life who was proud to see his Cubs finally win the World Series in 2016. Gabriel was also a car collector owning several classic cars himself. He was also a traveler who enjoyed visiting parts of Costa Rica, Santo Domingo, and Mexico.

All who knew him would describe him as a warm, gentle soul, an "angel" who never raised his voice to anyone, who was always there to help. Although his marriage to Esther had ended, he maintained close relationships with Esther's family, which, to this day, still considers him a brother.

Gabriel will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Valerie, and his grandchildren Sebastian and Juliet. He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters, Mercedes, Maria, Elena, Silvia, and Delia, and by his brothers Nieves (Papo) and Manolo. Gabriel was predeceased by his eldest daughter Laura and by his brother Feliciano.

The family will receive friends at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Maitland, FL on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 4:00-6:00PM, with a funeral service from 6:00 to 6:30. Reception to follow from 6:30-8:00PM, located upstairs in the reception area. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gabriel's life.

Pastor Guinn Shingleton will officiate the ceremony.
