Frederick "Freddy" Volkert, age 84 passed away peacefully on September 29,2024, in Tampa FL with his loving family by his side.
Frederick, a cherished father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother was born on September 25, 1940, in the bustling borough of Brooklyn, NY Freddy's journey through life was marked by resilience and an unwavering commitment to his family. His early years shaped his values and charismatic personality.

Freddy's early years in Brooklyn laid the foundation of a life characterized by hardwork and dedication. He took pride in his long-standing career as a dedicated milkman at Elmhurst Dairy in Jamaica, NY where he was best known as "Red" and his friendly demeanor became a staple to the community he served for many years. Even after hanging up his milkman hat, Freddy treasured his role as a father imparting cherished memories, strength and perseverance to his daughters, who will carry his legacy forward.

Fred's work ethic and sense of responsibility were deeply ingrained values that he passed on to his surviving daughters, Wendy Volkert, Michele Volkert, and Margaret Ortega, who he cherished more than anything in this world. His daughters saw him not just as a father but as the glue that held them all together.

Freddy's legacy continues to live on through his loving sister, Kathy Albrecht, son in law Kevin Ortega, his 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren who he found immense joy in, as well as a circle of nephews, nieces and friends including childhood friend, Patricia Caulifield.

His life was a fabric woven with the threads of family bonds. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary (Como) Volkert, his parents Dorothy and Edward, siblings Diane Polizzi and Thomas "Tommy" Volkert who no doubt have welcomed him with open arms for the greatest family reunion that Freddy has now joined.

Freddy's interests were a reflection of his character – simple yet profound. He found joy in the strum of a country song, the quiet concentration of a solitaire game, and the laughter-filled evenings playing Yahtzee, Uno, and Shut the Box with his family. In recent years, he became the family's historian, delighting in recounting tales of the past, ensuring that the rich fabric of their shared history would continue to inspire future generations.

Funny, loving, and selfless – these words are the pillars of Freddy's memory. His laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those who knew him, and his generosity knew no bounds.

Freddy's story is not one of sorrow, but a celebration of a life well-lived. He taught us that every day is a gift. Let us honor the memory of Frederick "Freddy" Volkert, a man who exemplified the strength and perseverance of a bygone era and the tenderness and humor necessary to create a life filled with joy and love. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully accepts donations in Frederick's name to his favorite charity: Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa. FL. There will be a Celebration of Life in Tampa. FL on November 2, 2024, and burial at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY on November 16, 2024.
