Frank Yost Jr., 94, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Orefield, Pa. went to meet his Lord and his beloved wife, Adele, on September 24, 2015. Frank, was born in Gerersdorf, Austria on August 24, 1921 born to Julianna (Kroboth) and Frank Yost Sr.
He is survived by his 3 children, James F. Yost and his wife, Linda, of Orefield, Pa., Sandra E. Pangonis, and her husband, Bill, of Orlando, Florida, and Linda J. Johnson and her husband, James, of Portage, Pa. Frank is also survived by his brother, Aloys "Louie" Yost of Northampton, sisters, Angeline Kotch of Catasauqua, Pa., and Theresa Acerra of Allentown, Pa. and sister-in-law, Kathryn Hacker of Coplay, Pa. He has 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adele, brother, Joseph Yost, and parents, Julianna and Frank Yost Sr.
Frank loved his God, his wife, Adele, and his family. He was a Mr. "Fix-It" or a Mr. "Built It." He loved going fishing, gardening, and making puzzles. He loved Penn State football and "surfing" the web on his computer and playing FreeCell on his IPhone or IPAD. He enjoyed making his native recipes, such as, woosie noodles, bogotchels, or gaeschtle,"dough" soup as we call it (a homemade chicken noodle soup). He loved chips, chocolate, and ice cream, especially banana splits. He was known to wander the aisles at Home Depot, Lowes, Cabela's, and any sporting store he might enter.
Dad was a member of Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps and help built Skyline Drive in the East and National Parks in the West. He served proudly in the Air Force as a Medical NCO in Northern Solomons, Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea, and Philippine Liberation during WWII evacuating wounded soldiers from the warfront. He received a Good Conduct Medal and Air Medal GO 138 Hq USAFISPA 26 Jan 44. He was discharged May 5, 1945 and returned home to meet his WWII pen pal, Adele, and married her in September of 1945. Theirs was a love story worthy of the big screen. A love and marriage that spanned 69 years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Fogelsville, Pa., and the Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church in Oviedo, Florida.
He was a contradiction of terms, hard and crusty on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside. A man of deep thought, strong emotion and conviction, and great love. A quiet man….a stubborn man…a man's man…a great man…our Dad and "Pop". We will miss his insightful input, his reflection of life's past memories, his cooking, his knowledge of gardening and fixing things and in general, his presence.
He has passed on his legacy to us and we will carry it forward.
