Florinda Balaguer Castaneda, a woman of radiant laughter and boundless love, has embarked on her final journey of life. Born on February 12, 1941, in the vibrant city of Havana, Cuba, Florinda's journey was marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering zest for life. Her life story is an inspiring testament to the power of determination, faith, and an enduring love for family.
Florinda's journey began with her birth to Juan E. Balaguer and Mercedes Sanjurjo Balaguer, both of whom have preceded her into eternal rest. Despite the loss of her homeland when she fled Cuba, Florinda's spirit was not dampened. Instead, she found strength in her love for her family and her dream of a brighter future. This led her to the shores of the United States, where she built a beautiful life marked by love, laughter, and learning.
Hardworking and dedicated, Florinda found her professional footing in the Atlantic National Bank and Independent Life Insurance. However, her heart truly belonged to the children she taught Spanish at the Grace Lutheran Church. Her devout faith and passion for teaching were evident in her dedication to her students and the joy she found in their success. Florinda's career was not just a job but a testament to her belief in education, her passion for her culture, and her commitment to the community.
Florinda's life was one of creativity and joy, evident in her love for ceramics, gardening, and baking. She had a knack for turning the simplest moments into cherished memories, whether it was late-night conversations with friends, or a day spent swimming. Her laughter was infectious, her stories captivating, and her love for her family all-encompassing. It was Christmas all year round! As a sports mother, she was the loudest cheerleader, always present at every baseball and football game, supporting her children with unwavering enthusiasm.
Florinda's life was enriched by the love she shared with her husband, Daniel J. Castaneda, and the pride she took in her children, Daniel J. Castaneda Jr, fondly known as "Danny", daughter-in-law Kathy, and Juan M. Castaneda, affectionately called "Johnny", daughter-in-law Jamie. She was a beloved grandmother to Ally Gordon (Trey), Nicholas "Nick" Castaneda, and Kady Castaneda, and a doting great-grandmother to Liam and Piper Gordon. Florinda also shared a special bond with her brother, Juan J. Balaguer, known as "Juanito", and her nieces, Melissa Balaguer (Goddaughter), Jennifer Parvin (George), and Kimberly Balaguer. She also had the deepest love for her great nephews and niece; Colton Balaguer, Gardner Leigh, and Whit Parvin.
After battling a stroke, Florinda Balaguer Castaneda went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a woman of strength, resilience, and love. Her life was a testament to the power of dreams, the strength of character, and the enduring bonds of family. She was funny, loving, and creative – a beacon of light in the lives of those she touched.
As we remember Florinda today, let us not dwell on her departure but rather celebrate her life, a life marked by courage, love, and unyielding spirit. Florinda's legacy is not one of sorrow but of inspiration, reminding us of the power of resilience, the importance of family, and the joy of living life to the fullest. May her journey inspire us to live with the same courage, love, and joyful spirit she embodied.
A celebration of life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 5. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the worship service (12200 McCormick Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32225).
The family is requesting that memorial donations may be made in Florinda's name to Grace Lutheran School or to Community Hospice.
