Obituary

It is with both sadness and pride that I at long last compose the obituary of my loving mother, Flora Ann ("Fody") Brock Dulin, of Orlando, FL. She was 99 years old on March 6, 2021 when she took her final breath, and her spirit passed into heaven. She was in the Orlando home where she lived for over 60 years when she departed this world, and her loving caregiver, Michelle, was by her side.

My mother was born on February 19, 1922, in Wadesboro, North Carolina, the fourth of five children of Walter Edgar Brock and Elizabeth Ashcraft Brock. She graduated from Wadesboro High School and attended UNC Women's College in Greensboro.

She was predeceased by her four siblings, her husband Ramsey W. Dulin, Jr., and son, Ramsey W. Dulin, III, and has now embraced them in eternity. She is survived by myself, Helen Dulin Rowe, and son-in-law Bill Rowe, both of Gainesville, FL, and daughter-in-law Pamela Dulin, of Winter Park, FL. She has three grandchildren, Shane Rowe (Lauren) of Pensacola, FL, Iris Meeker (Andrew) of Gainesville, Aileen Rowe (Chris Higgins) of Gainesville, and four great-grandchildren, Del and Sabal Meeker, Eily Higgins and Kayleigh Rowe. She also has many loving nieces and nephews.

Mom epitomized the giving spirit, lovingly nurturing her progeny, serving her fellow man, and always seeing goodness in others. She was the quintessential southern lady who welcomed all into her home and made them feel special. She possessed a keen sense of the human condition and, in her gentle and unassuming way, always brought out the best in others.

Mom added a special light and energy to every occasion and was a pure joy to be around. She was an embodiment of selflessness and compassion for others, possessing a spiritual wealth that far transcends the material.

She was a faithful member of Reeves Memorial Methodist Church for over 60 years where she taught children's Sunday School and acted as the Church Treasurer.

She worked full time as a legal secretary for a prominent Orlando attorney, Gil Bentley, and did volunteer work for both the Cub Scouts and Red Cross. She had a supremely positive attitude toward life, and in her 80s survived breast cancer. She dearly loved animals and was never without a dog or cat.

Mom cultivated many relationships over the years, including dear friends, but her proudest and most joyful accomplishment in life, as she once shared, were her children and their offspring. She participated fully in the lives of her grandchildren, spending summers, holidays and vacation visits caring for and doting on them. With the arrival of great-grandchildren, her love of life and family continued to grow.

Mom lost much of her independence in her later years due mainly to her failing eyesight. Yet, despite this loss she always remained extremely gracious and upbeat, and glowed with a rare and dignified grace. As she declined physically, her heartfelt love for others never waned, and she served as an exemplary role model of how to live a good life to all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, 1:00 PM, at Reeves Memorial Methodist Church, 1100 N. Fern Creek Avenue in Orlando. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Breast Cancer Research Fund ( bcrf@bcrf.org ) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org).
