Retired Chief Petty Officer Eugene L. Shields of Mt. Dora, FL peacefully went to our Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014 in Cornerstone Hospice.
He was born in Dover, FL to the late Herman and Evella (Burney) Shields. Gene served in the Army and Navy for 25yrs and as a Quality Assurance Specialist at the Naval Air Station until his retirement, giving a total of 40yrs to our country. He was also a long time Master Mason in the Jacksonville area. He was active at Epiphany Anglican Church in prayer ministry and past Vestry member.
Among his hobbies he was an accomplished woodturner and a member of the FL Woodturners Club.
Gene is survived by his wife Beverly (Gervais) of Mt. Dora; children Jane, Kim and Patrick; brothers David and Herman; sisters Evelyn, Vergie, Pauletta, LaVern, and Jaquetta. Gene has 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, Feb. 13 at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Sanford. The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Lake Mary.
