Ethel P. Copes' Obituary
Ethel Peterson Copes, 90, of Maitland, Florida passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 10, 2017.
Ethel was born in Dunkirk, New York to Harry Edgar Peterson and Bessie Fanton Peterson. She grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia with her 2 younger brothers Tommy and Nelson Peterson. She married Edward Copes in July 1945. They lived in New York, Texas and Ohio and following the birth of their first child Alison they settled in Florida in 1958 and welcomed their second child Jeff in 1959.
Ethel was a lifelong Episcopalian and avid bridge player. She served as the Altar Guild Directress for over 50 years and for several years as the Clerk of the Vestry at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland, Florida. She was a stay at home mom for several years before resuming her secretarial career. She enjoyed a full life surrounded by many, many friends and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all enjoyed her tremendous wit and wisdom.
Ethel is survived by her daughter Alison Copes Walls (Lee) of Orlando, Florida, son Jeff Copes of Arlington, Virginia, brother John Nelson Peterson of Winter Park, Florida, grandchildren Sean Walls (Stephanie) of Winter Garden, Florida, Chris Walls (Heather) of Winter Haven, Florida, Sandi Poreda (Jason) of Tallahassee, Florida, Zac Copes (Adrienne) of Saratoga Springs, New York, and Isaac Copes of Clarksville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren Taj Walls, Jace Walls and Aurora Walls of Winter Haven, Florida and Raylen Copes of Saratoga Springs, New York. She is predeceased by her brother Tommy Peterson of Portland, Oregon.
Final arrangements are being handled by DeGusipe Funeral Home and Crematory, Maitland, Florida. Burial Service with Committal will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 331 Lake Avenue,Maitland, FL 32751

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered in Ethel's name to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
