Obituary

Esther Lydia (Agosto) Matat, died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones in Altamonte Springs, FL on February 4, 2018 at the age of 68. She is survived by her daughters Nabila Bensalih, Valerie Serrano, and son, Samy Matat.
Esther was born on January 19, 1950 in Manati, Puerto Rico. She moved to Chicago at the age of 3, where she later graduated from Cooley High in 1968. After the blizzard of '79, Esther finally made Florida her final home.
She was an avid baseball and hockey fan. One of her fondest memories were the times she would go to Cubs games at Wrigley Field and White Sox games at Comiskey Park with her father, Pepin Agosto. Later on, she became a "diehard" White Sox fan. After living in South Florida for about 20 years, she was extremely delighted to have her own baseball team, the Marlins. She was very proud that her team had won two World Series in their first 10 years of existence. She also loved antiquing, looking for knick-knacks and all things vintage at second-hand stores. She enjoyed selling her collectibles on Ebay and felt proud to be able to share her passion with others.
She would say that her greatest accomplishment would be her four children: Laura, Valerie, Nabila, and Samy. She was a loving mother, who always delighted in seeing her friends and family happy. Esther was known by everyone as selfless, always opening her home to friends and family at their toughest times, never asking for anything in return. It was always said that she would give her very last dollar to a loved one in need.
The family will receive friends at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Maitland, FL on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 5:00-8:00PM, with a Reception to follow from 8:00-9:00PM, located upstairs in the reception area. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Esther's life. Flowers may be sent to DeGusipe Funeral Home at 9001 N. Orlando Ave, Maitland FL 32751.
Rev. Zulma I. Martinez will officiate the ceremony.
