Ernestine Louise Dyce affectionately known as Dotty Dyce died peacefully at home on June 26, 2024, in Winter Garden, Florida, surrounded by her family. She was just over a month shy of her 94th birthday.
Ernestine was born on August 4th in Hope Bay, Portland to Mazie Graham. She was the third of 4 children for her mother. The first one, a brother, died early and she was the last of the siblings to pass. She was a self-employed seamstress until she retired from sewing and moved to the US to live with her eldest daughter Lauren and husband Horace.
Ernestine loved to help people. She was always cooking for others and lending a helping hand to those in need, at times opening her home to those who had none. She was a skilled and creative seamstress making beautiful outfits without using patterns. After moving to the US, she served her church by volunteering in the pantry for several years. She loved having people and children around her. She believed in using natural herbs and home remedies. Her children always had to have a cup of tea first thing in the morning to break 'fast' before starting the day. She had a special love for roses of all colors, but her favorites were yellow, peach and pink. Anyone who encountered her would experience her wittiness, sharp tongue and great sense of humor!
Ernestine is preceded in death by stepson Noel and three of her grandchildren. She is survived by five children – Rohan, Michael, Lauren, Deon, Sheryl, Son-in-law – Horace and his loving family, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives, adopted 'daughters, 'sisters of faith' and treasured friends who will miss her dearly. The family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and Vitas Hospice for all the loving care given that extended her life.
A celebration service is scheduled for Friday, July 12th. Viewing at 10:00 a.m., Service at 11:00 a.m. with repast after the burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Herald of Hope Community Corporation:
