Obituary

Dr. Ellis I. Hormats, born 12/10/1919 to Myer and Sadie Hormats of Albany, NY passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2015. He is predeceased by his parents and his wives Arlene (Goldberg 1956) and Helen (Martin 1971) he is survived by his wife Audrey Spencer of Marion, NY and his children, Barbara (Arthur) Edlund of Constantia, NY, Gail Hormats of Worcester, MA, Carol (Rene) Gobeyn of Lombard, IL and step-daughter Karen Martin Hormats of Rochester, NY. He had 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was an alumnus of RPI (BS), University of Cincinnati (MS) and Cornell University (PHD.) in Chemical Engineering. He was also a WWII Army veteran stationed at Los Alamos, NM as an Engineer. Ellis moved from Rochester, NY to Maitland, FL in 1981. He was a dedicated member of the Free Masons, serving 60 years in various line positions at both a district and state level in NY and FL. His most recent passion was working with Doctor Smiles for the Grotto; a Masonic program that provides dental care to disabled and disadvantaged children. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at South Seminole Lodge #364 on May 3, 2015 at 5 pm and a private family service will be held later at Beth Emeth Cemetery in Albany, NY.
