Elizabeth Amelia Rieck was born on September 2nd, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona. The oldest of seven children of Ruth and Wendell Rieck. Raised in Cleveland Ohio, then moved to Florida in 1958 with the family. She attended Evans High and was married in 1964 to Lamar Zipperer. They had seven children.

She went back to school at age 40 and became a registered nurse. She worked at Central Florida Regional Hospital for over 20 years!
