Edward James Cox, 88, of Sanford, FL died at his home on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2010 after a long journey with Parkinson's Disease.
Born on September 3, 1931 in Augusta, GA to Mary Alice (Reardon) and T. Neal Cox, Edward was raised on Arcadia Plantation in Georgetown, SC where his father was horticulturist and property superintendent. Edward took full advantage of everything the picturesque setting had to offer which led to a passion for the outdoors. He was educated at Porter-Gaud Military Academy, Winyah High School, and spent four years as a medic in the U.S. Navy, visiting 'about half the world."
He married Elizabeth Ann Rayner on October 21, 1978 in Evansville, IN where he was Vice President of Atlas Van Lines before retiring in 1981 and moving to Florida. Rather than full time relaxation, Edward became an executive for The Suddath Companies until his second retirement in 2006.
Edward and Betsy were enriched with many close friends through business and especially their boating community.
In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by a daughter, Bibi (Brian) Cox of Copenhagen, Denmark, sister, Alice Cox Harrelson of Georgetown, SC.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (michealjfox.org/donate).
