Dwight C. Brunoehler of Winter Park, FL, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the age of 67. Born October 25, 1950, in Muncie, Indiana, he was the son of the late Carl J. Brunoehler, M.D. and Evangeline Buckley, RN.
Dwight was the CEO of Eurotrade Inc operating out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. He led a team working with International Banks and Traders coordinating Private Placement Programs, Buy and Sell programs for Bank Guarantees, Stand By Letters of Credit, and Medium Term Notes. The company also deals in commodities with an emphasis on gas and oil products.
Previously, Dwight held the positions of Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors for Biostem US Corporation until March, 2013. Prior to that, he served as an advisor and held executive roles with several international companies operating in the biotech field.
Dwight founded Cryobanks International in 1993 and served as its President and CEO until 2008. He positioned Cryobanks to become one of the world's largest banks for donated unrelated umbilical cord blood. He developed partnerships between Cryobanks International and physicians and hospitals worldwide to further advance the usage of cord blood stem cells for transplant and non-controversial life enhancing research. He assisted numerous state legislators in drafting laws where expectant mothers were educated and informed of the benefits of cord blood donation. He was instrumental in drafting the first state cord blood awareness legislation of its kind in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Dwight coordinated numerous research and development partnerships to develop therapeutic benefits of cord blood stem cells. He was a past member of The Cord Blood Work Group and the Finance Sub-Committees of the World Marrow Donor Association. He was an active member of the American Society of Hematology and a founding member of the International Cord Blood Society.
Dwight lectured in numerous hospitals and universities throughout the world on cord blood donation. He engineered a worldwide network of licensed facilities to grow the inventory and availability of cord blood, where the first three locations opened in: Athens, Greece, New Delhi, India and Bangkok, Thailand. The Athens location became the first facility in Europe to be accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks.
Prior to his work at Cryobanks International, Dwight participated in a wide variety of successful ventures. He owned and operated many different businesses and held executive level positions in marketing, public relations and new product development capacities in both established and start-up companies, including seven years with the Bell System.
Among his many recognition awards are the March of Dimes Corporate Volunteer of The Year Award, and the Florida Public Relations Association Golden Image Award of Distinction for his work in promoting corporate volunteerism nationwide.
Dwight attended Croydon Hall Academy after which he served in the United States Army, in Germany. He was a graduate of the University of Central Florida, and in 2007 was honored to be the keynote speaker at the commencement celebration for advanced degrees in the health sciences sector.
Dwight is survived by his two daughters, SueAnn Rand (Joe), and Carey Jackson, 7 grandchildren, brother, John Brunoehler and sister, Trinita Brunoehler.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor in November.
