Dorothy Jean Metz 81 went to be the her Lord peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Lexington Health and Rehab long term care in St. Petersburg. Dot was born January 7, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended schools in De Moines and Florida most of her life. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School class of 1953 and attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. Dot worked for Maas Brothers Dept. Store for 27 years in the childrens toy department. Dorothy attended and was a life member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Over the yearts she volunteered at the Women�s Free Clinic and the Habitat for Humanity. Prior to her death she resided at the Lutheran Towers Apts for 13 years and had many friends though out her years there. She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Neva Metz and sister Marilyn Wilson. Survivors include sisters: Helen Metz Lore of Oakland, California; Shirley Kickliter-Cundari (Chuck) of Auburn, Alabama; six nieces, three nephews and many grandnieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, September 5 from 1 P.M. until service time at 2 P.M. Burial will be in Des Moines, Iowa with her parents. Over the past year her nephew, Kevin Kickliter took are of many of her needs and whishes making her days in long term health care brighter. Her family would also like to thank all of the staff at Lexington Health and Rehab and all of her friends who visited with her and brought cookies and candy for her to enjoy. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
