Dorothy "Dot" Foret

With deep sadness and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Dorothy "Dot" Foret on January 9, 2025. She was married to her husband, David "Dave" Foret for 61 wonderful years. Dot was born in Ville Platte, a small town in Louisiana on January 25, 1939, to the late Joseph and Mary Peal Hidalgo. She was truly a farmer's daughter. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her daughter, Sara Ann. She is survived by her husband, David; son, Brian (Elizabeth); grandsons, Dylan and Brandon and sister, Elaine (Wayne) Rabalais of Lafayette, LA. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on February 15, 2025, at 10:00am. The family invites everyone to join them for a reception following the mass. A NOTE FROM DOT'S LOVING HUSBAND: I am going to tell you about my loving wife Dorothy (Dot) Foret and how in 61 years of marriage she was always there for me. She was born in a small town in Louisiana on January 25, 1939, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hidalgo. Living on a farm with her younger sister Elaine some 9 miles out of town meant she had to ride a school bus that left about 6 in the morning and didn't return till 5 in the evening. I was on leave one day from the Air Force and a mutual friend asked if I needed a date for a dance at the Lez es Bon ton roulette (Let the good times roll) and that is how we met, on a blind date. Well needless to say we hit it off right away and believe it or not Love at first sight. I had to return to my base, but we vowed that we would write letters and stay in touch. I wrote to her on my first day back to my duty station in Del Rio Texas. I put the letter on the sun visor and went to work. Later when I went to the post office to mail it was nowhere to be found. When I told her I had written but the letter was lost she figured that I was all talk and no action. As it turns out several months later, she got the letter in the mail, but it was post marked Patrick Air Force Base. It had a note slipped in saying "I found this on the runway and thought you might like to have it". This must have been in Gods master plan for us. After a year apart we decided to get married on August 24, 1963. We took a week getting from Lafayette, LA to my new duty station. Being in the Air Force and assigned to the then top-secret U-2 wing required temporary duty stations all over the world. We had been married almost a year when I had to go on temporary duty (4months) to Australia. As it turned out Dot was on a train back to Lafayette while I was celebrating our 1st anniversary twice as we crossed the International Date Line. If I had to go when I returned, she was always waiting for me with open arms. After my 4-year commitment we decided to go home. We decided that I would go to college, get a degree and then get a job. Dot went to work to help with the expense of school. I finished with a BS in Electrical Engineering (1969) and she bought me a ring as a reward. After graduation I interviewed in Pittsburg, PA and then in Orlando, FL. During the month of February, PA was cold, and the air was stinky, FL was warm with a big sun. I told Dot when I got home from FL that I had been to hell and then to heaven. There was no question we were going to FL and moved to Fern Park in (1969). We bought a house, joined the church and tried to start a family but as God had other plans. I had been working for about a year when we got the opportunity to move to Germany. I asked what she thought of that, and she jumped at the idea. We moved in November just before Thanksgiving. In Germany housing was hard to find, so we joined another couple (the James') and shared a 3-bedroom condo. The couple was from Ocala, and we became close friends, even to this day. Dot and I bought a new 1971 VW but couldn't get delivery till at least January. We had to have transportation, so we bought a black 1955 VW. Everyone called it black beauty. The Germans would laugh at us. Just before Christmas Dot and I along with our roommates went to Frankfort to get a tree. We were the laughingstock of the town we lived in because as we drove home our tree was about the same size of our black beauty. We used all of our spare time traveling throughout Europe. When we returned to our Fern Park home, we had new neighbors (the Williams) from Alabama. We hit it off and became very close friends for the last 50 years. We decided it was time to have a family but had challenges, so we got approved from Catholic Charity to adopt a baby. We were notified that a baby was coming soon to get ready. Once again, God stepped in, we found out Dot was pregnant. We passed up the adoption and waited for our son Brian. My job required that I travel a lot, but Dot was always there for me when I got home. We had the opportunity to change jobs and move to New Orleans. She was all for that, because it was much closer to family, but the job only lasted for a short time, and we returned to FL. Per God's plan Dot was pregnant with our daughter Sara. She was a great wife for me and a great mother to our kids. She loved being able to stay home raising Brian and Sara. When Brian and Elizabeth had the boys, Dylan and Brandon, she was thrilled to become a Grammie. During Sara's school years at SMM, Dot would collect all the donated student uniforms at the end of the school year. She would wash and repair them, and Sara did the ironing. Dot was also known as one of the kitchen gang. She along with other mothers would provide lunch every day for the kids at no cost. She was a member of the CCW's St. Roberts Circle at church and got involved with all the good things that the circle did. She was the registrar for the Seminole Soccer Club for a couple of years. She volunteered at Lyman High School helping students search for college scholarships. These are just a few of the things that describe her as a giving person. Dot was a strong woman that beat breast cancer twice, had knee replacement, and suffered with problems in her esophagus. As I think about our life together for 61 years, I can remember the times God stepped in to help us make the right decisions for our family. Please pray for my loving wife that she is in heaven and will be there for me if I am so lucky to meet her again.
