Cdr. Donald A. Weir, CHC, USNR, Ret. of Maitland, FL passed away on Thursday, 12/17/15 of natural causes. He was predeceased by his parents Herbert & Esther Weir and older brother James. Don is survived by Beverley, his wife of 56 years, daughter, Diane Ridley (Robert), son David Weir (Sandie); granddaughter Jessica Brock (Alexander), granddaughter Makenzie, great-grandson Gabriel, sister Emmy Lou (Weir) Storholm, cousin Andrew Rankin (MaryAnn) and sister-in-law Margaret Towle (George) and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Don graduated from Windom High School in 1946 and pursued his college education at the University of Dubuque, IA earning his BA in 1950 and M.Div. in 1953. Don was ordained on June 17, 1953 by the Presbytery of Mankato in Windom, MN. He was recruited as a Navy Chaplain in 1953 where he served for 22 years and retired in Orlando, Florida.

After retiring from the U. S. Navy in 1975 he pursued a second career as a real estate broker in the Central Florida area for several successful firms. In addition to his work, he was a gifted public speaker, having served as president of the Winter Park Toastmasters club. He used this gift to volunteer both as a tutor for and speaker on behalf of the Adult Literacy League for many years.

After spending over 20 years in the real estate business Don felt the call to share the word of God once again and joined the United Congregational Church and accepted an assignment as the lead pastor for Mayflower Church in Littleton, CO. After serving as their pastor for 3-1/2 years he retired and he and Bev returned to Central Florida to be close to their children.

Over the years since returning to the Orlando area, Don met, mentored and befriended many people from all walks of life as he enjoyed doing. He was a gentle man who always had the right words at the right time and was an inspiration to many especially his family. We know that Jesus is at the right hand of the Father and you are at the left helping Him guide those who are lost and helping them find their way. We are glad you are there in the Lord's hands to watch over all of us and know that you will be there to greet us when we arrive. We love you and miss you.

A memorial service will be held in January 2016 and Don will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
