Mr. Donald T Richards' Obituary
Donald "Don" Richards passed away peacefully in the care of Hospice of the Comforter and his beloved wife, Leigh, on Sunday, October 13, 2019 in Altamonte Springs, Florida at the young age of 91.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Minnie Richards and his sister Shirley Widing. Don is survived by his wife Leona "Leigh" Richards; and their children, Rene Richards of Houston, TX, Lance Richards of Mount Dora, FL, Mark Richards (Mystie) of Marianna, FL, Paul Richards of Eustis, FL, Laura Brown of Baltimore, MD, Shannon McClain of Maitland, FL, Robert Bachman (Tania) of Athens, GA; his nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Don was born on February 8, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Minnie Richards. He worked for Bell Telephone Systems / Western Electric for 39 years as a field engineer. Don had an incredible work ethic, which is reflected in the fact that in all of his time with the company, he missed a mere 4 days of work.
After retirement, Don met and married Leigh Reed, who would become his devoted wife for the next 30 years. During their marriage, Don and Leigh thoroughly enjoyed traveling, and did so extensively, to many places throughout the world.
Don exhibited tremendous talent in home design. He derived great pleasure in putting that talent to work over his lifetime, especially in the creatively designed octagon-shaped entrance and the light-infused, beautiful sunroom in his current home.
Don immensely enjoyed sharing his beautiful home to entertain others. He was known to all as the epitome of a gracious host, and a true gentleman. No guest ever spent ten minutes after crossing the threshold of his home without being offered his favorite combination of rich espresso enhanced by Sambuca.
An open house celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 2 pm to 6 pm, at the home of Don and Leigh Richards, (2236 Tuscarora Trail, Maitland, FL). All are welcome to join the family in celebrating and honoring Don's long life.
