Donald P. Rogers, a beloved scholar, mentor, and family man, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, in Gulfport, Florida, surrounded by his family. He was 79. Born on August 28, 1947, in Tucson, Arizona, Don devoted his life to learning, teaching, and uplifting others. He graduated from the University of Arizona and Ohio University. He began his academic career with faculty appointments at the State University of New York at Buffalo and the State University of New York at Geneseo before joining Rollins College faculty in Winter Park, Florida. In 1994, Don founded the MHR program at the Rollins College Hamilton Holt School. For 34 years, Don served the Rollins community with dedication and a deep commitment to his students. His thoughtful leadership and steady presence shaped the Business Management department for decades. Upon his retirement, he was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus, a reflection of both his scholarly contributions and the profound impact he made on generations of students and colleagues. Outside the classroom, Don was a man who cherished simple joys—quiet hours with a book, time spent with family, and the companionship of the 24 older dogs he and his wife rescued throughout his life. Each pup found safety and love as cherished family members. His final companions were Lady Bird and Mackenzie, while Teddy Roosevelt held a particularly special place in his heart. Don’s devotion to animals was not just a pastime, but a defining part of who he was. He is survived by Fran, his wife of 52 years; his daughters, Tracy Schooley and Anne Chansler; his grandchildren, Amanda Bostwick, Abigail Bavaro, Allen Barraclough, and Taylor Rogers-Chansler; his sister, Shirley Mundell; his greatgrandchildren, Everleigh, Brayden, and Kimber; and several nephews and nieces. Each of them carries forward his kindness, his curiosity, and his deep love for family. In honor of Don’s lifelong commitment to education and his extraordinary love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Rollins College Foundation or to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
