Don W. Hertfelder, 88 of Winter Springs, Florida passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Don Hertfelder was born in New Jersey where he resided for 65 years. After retirement, from Sperry and Hutchinson Green Stamps, he moved to Florida.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, at the young age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy. He became part of the Sea-Bees and fought in the Battle of Okinawa, which became the largest Naval attack in history. Shortly after his return from the War he married his childhood sweetheart, the girl next door, Carolyn They were married for 68 years.
Don's favorite hobby was creating and building boats and doll houses. He did everything by hand using no power tools. His finished product was amazing and wll be cherished and remembered by many who received them as gifts. His reward, the smiles on their faces. They were truly "gifts of love".
He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife, Carolyn. His daughter, Donna Couch. Grandaughters, Erin David, Holly Kracht and Quinn Swanton. And six great-grandchildren, Connor, Austin and Lucas Kracht, Liam and Kearly Swanton and Lillian David.
