Donald William Castner, lovingly known to so many as Don, passed away on May 24, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on August 22, 1960, Donald lived a life full of laughter, love, dedication, and unforgettable memories with the people he cared for most.
Don shared many happy years and countless joyful memories with his loving partner, Sheri Crabtree. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Audrey, and her husband Jason, and to his son Ryan and the love of his life, Heather. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Anthony, Mason, and Rylann, who brought endless joy to his life.
He is also survived by his mother, Pearl, and her husband Earl; his sisters Laura and Debbie; his brother Tommy; along with cherished brother-in-law Charlie, sister-in-law Charlotte, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Anyone who knew Don knew his love for his New York sports teams — especially the Mets, Jets, and Knicks. He found happiness in the simple things in life: relaxing at the beach, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors. He loved working on cars, tinkering with projects around the house, and always keeping busy with something he could fix or improve.
Don had a personality that could light up any room. He was full of laughter, always had the best jokes, and never passed up a good party, a cold beverage, or a long conversation about life. His warmth, humor, and ability to make everyone feel welcome are memories that will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
Don proudly dedicated nearly 30 years of service to the Longwood Fire Department, retiring as a Battalion Chief. His commitment to serving his community and helping others was something he carried with great pride and honor throughout his life.
He was loved by so many people and will be deeply and forever missed, but the memories, laughter, and love he shared will continue to live on through all who were lucky enough to know him.
