Desmond "Dread" Powell passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023 at the age of 60, a day before his 61st birthday. He was born on November 26, 1962 in Kingston, Jamaica to Pauline Moody and Vinston Green. He migrated to the United States on December 13th 2007, where he lived in Washington D.C until he later settled in Orlando, Florida. He worked as a landscaper and irrigation foreman at Dobson Woods and Water for many years. Desmond had a huge heart and on any given day could be found taking it easy, enjoying the simple things in life. He was a humble and grateful man, quick to come to the aid of friends or family in need. He was principled and stood firm in his beliefs, no matter what life carried his way. Even as he struggled through health challenges over the years, he never despaired, and he was always quick to deliver a sharp joke - one of the things he did best. He loved his children fiercely and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Desmond is survived by his mother and father, his daughters - Betenia Powell, Najay Roache and Sherine Powell, his son Giovanni Powell, grandchildren - Sohmalyia, Shyra, Sariaya, Malachi, Zidon, Noa and Arlo, his Sisters- Lorna, Grace, Donna, Wendy and his brother Romario. Nieces, Chin and Annie, nephew, Andrew.
On behalf of his entire family, all those who he loved and who loved him in return, thank you for your sympathies during this difficult time. As we say farewell (for now) to our beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend, the Lion who would speak without fear of one day journeying "to the place where travelers go with no message to return." Des, we love you and will miss you always.
The celebration of life ceremony and luncheon will be held on December 10, 2023 at Degusipe Funeral Home.
