Obituary

Derelle Jackson Martin passed away at Hospice Woodside 0n October 28,2018 after a short
Illness. She was born February 18, 1929 in Lakeland , Florida. Married in 1953, she later became
the devoted mother of three daughters. In 1989, Derelle began a new period in her life living
as a single, independent woman which in turn caused her to seek new purpose in life. An avid
dog lover since childhood, she became active in the Greyhound Pets of America organization
fostering and caring for numerous racing dogs displaced in their retirement. She also joined
Daughters of the American Revolution service organization and met good friends there too.
Most importantly, Derelle sought a deeper spiritual connection to her faith and joined Azalea Baptist
Church and then Park Street Baptist church where she found much love and acceptance in her church
family. In her later years, her additional health and social needs were met in the PACE Senior Adult
program, which greatly enhanced her health and well-being.
She is predeceased by her daughter Virginia Fallin and survived by her daughters Laura Burgett
and Janet Monolias, son-in-law Weldon Burgett, grandchildren Sarah Mendoza (Erick) and Robert Burgett,
sister Florence Hardy, former husband Robert Martin, and numerous extended loved family and friends.
The family suggests donations to the PACE Senior Adult program.
Memorial service will be held at Park Street Baptist Church 3901 Park Street North St. Petersburg,
Florida 33709 on Thursday November 1 at 6 pm.
